Natural Seaweed and the Human Skin

AEGIS is committed to advancing marine science and natural botanical technologies to create, formulate and produce the highest quality products. Our team of biochemists and botanists have decades of experience in combining the most effective natural ingredients with the latest scientific research.

AEGIS’s SEA NATURALS © marine-based skin care products provide the essential nourishment our skin needs to maintain a healthy disposition through the incorporation of minerals, trace elements and vitamins. This unique integral relationship between natural seaweed and our skin is due to the nutrient composition of the oceanic and sea environment.

As far back as 1897, Rene Quinton, a French biologist, discovered a strong relationship between seawater and our blood plasma, as they are nearly identical in chemical composition, in terms of mineral and trace element levels.

The human body needs replenishment of these essential minerals such as zinc, phosphorus, calcium and magnesium on a daily basis. Seawater contains the body’s ideal balance of minerals, making it the perfect medium to restore these levels.

Minerals and trace elements are important catalysts to all cell functions and maintenance for prevention of cellular imbalance.

Brittany Seaweed

Seaweed is a natural resource that grows in abundance, particularly in areas with large tidal fluctuation such as the Brittany region of France. With one of the highest tide fluctuations in the world, this eco-system provides an ideal environment for marine plants to adapt and grow. Researchers have shown, seaweeds that grow in this tidal zone adapt and develop many skin like qualities to maintain hydration levels, protect themselves from external aggressors, such as UV induced free radical formation, as well as develop the ability to withstand fluctuating temperatures to extreme cold.

Brittany seaweed is harvested under the coast Act in compliance with Ordinances of the French Government and the National Syndicate of Marine Algae.  Each season, only a portion of the seaweed forest is harvested and young plants are untouched to ensure sustainability and regeneration, wellness and beauty.

  • Seaweed is the oldest form of life on the planet
  • There are more than 25,000 species of seaweed
  • Over half of the earth’s oxygen comes from seaweed
  • Seaweed contains an unsurpassed richness of minerals, amino acids, vitamins and trace elements
  • Scientists report that the mineral content of some seaweed species account for more than 5 times that of botanicals

Types of Seaweed

Green Seaweed – concentrated with a rich source of vitamin C, chlorophyll and minerals, it provides stimulation to regenerate skin cells, improves skin conditions, and leaves the skin smooth and soft.

Blue Seaweed – one of the main ingredients is spirulina, which is extremely rich in protein and carotene. Blue seaweed supports skin firmness and provides hydration.

Brown Seaweed – In this category is the Laminaria seaweed, which are the richest in trace elements, as well as beta-carotenes and vitamins K and B, and provides the most re-mineralizing properties for rejuvenation and elasticity.

Red Seaweed – rich in amino acids, essential fatty acids, such as omega-3 and -6, which help to stimulate circulation.
